To create an ImmiAccount, select “Create an ImmiAccount”, enter your email, enter the code emailed to you, choose Individual or Organisation and your details, then set up multi-factor authentication; a 482 worker uses an individual account and the sponsoring business uses an organisation account. An organisation account is not active until an Organisation Account Administrator or Home Affairs approves it, which Home Affairs usually does in 4 working days, and until then it stays an individual account (Home Affairs, Create your ImmiAccount, updated 18 June 2025). The worker’s visa application must identify the employer’s nomination and be in the same stream (Migration Regulations 1994, Schedule 1 item 1240(3)(f)), so the worker needs the nomination details from the employer before lodging.
For a worker (individual account)
- Select “Create an ImmiAccount” on the ImmiAccount log-in page.
- Enter your email address, then the verification code emailed to you.
- Select “Individual”, enter your details and select “Continue”.
- Enter your account details, accept the ImmiAccount terms and conditions, tick “I am not a robot” and select “Submit”.
- Set up multi-factor authentication; from then on you enter a 6-digit code at every log-in.
For a sponsor (organisation account)
- Select “Create an ImmiAccount” on the ImmiAccount log-in page.
- Enter the email address, then the verification code emailed to it.
- Select “Organisation”, tick each service the business needs (for example online lodgement, or VEVO for organisations) and give a reason for each.
- Enter the account details and accept the terms and conditions.
- Set up multi-factor authentication.
- Wait for approval by your Organisation Account Administrator or by Home Affairs, usually 4 working days; Home Affairs always reviews a request for VEVO access.

Organisation or personal account?
A worker uses a personal (individual) account, and a business, or a lawyer lodging for clients, uses an organisation account (Home Affairs, Create your ImmiAccount).
| Who you are | Account type | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| The 482 applicant (the worker) | Individual | Lodging and tracking your own visa application |
| A sponsoring company | Organisation | Sponsorship, nominations and VEVO checks |
| Your Australian migration lawyer | Organisation | Lodging for clients |
| Any other organisation | Organisation | The services requested at set-up |
An individual account can be changed to organisation access through “Manage Account”, then “Request access”. Select the “Online Lodgement” service when you do, or you lose access to the applications already in the account (Home Affairs, Manage your ImmiAccount, updated 12 August 2025).
How do you create an ImmiAccount?
You create an ImmiAccount through the “Create an ImmiAccount” link in the steps above, and three set-up rules matter later:
- Usernames: each is unique, and it cannot be changed or reused.
- Secret questions: you set them at registration and need them to recover a forgotten password.
- A fresh start: if you cannot answer your secret questions, you can create a new account and import your application into it (Home Affairs, Applying online).
A forgotten username is recovered from the log-in page; Home Affairs emails the usernames of every account linked to your email address.
Linking a 482 application
A 482 runs across three applications, the sponsorship, the nomination and the visa, and ImmiAccount links them in four steps:
- The sponsor lodges “Standard Business Sponsorship (482, 494)” and then the nomination in its organisation account, and notes the Transaction Reference Number (TRN) of each (Home Affairs, Standard business sponsor page).
- Home Affairs issues a nomination approval number when it approves the nomination (Home Affairs, Core Skills stream page).
- The worker’s visa application, lodged in the worker’s account or their lawyer’s, must identify that nomination and be in the stream it was made in. Under Schedule 1 item 1240(3)(f) of the Migration Regulations 1994, the nomination must be approved or still undecided when the visa application is made.
- Accounts work together through three functions. “Share” lets another account view an application with the status Received, Initial Assessment, Further Assessment or Finalised, and attach documents to it. “Send” passes an incomplete application to another account to complete or pay. “Import” brings a lodged application into an account using the application ID or TRN, the main applicant’s date of birth and passport details. Organisation applications and nominations cannot be imported.
A lawyer or authorised recipient who uses these functions for you is appointed on a Home Affairs form first; the guide to Form 956A appointment covers both Form 956 and Form 956A.
Uploading documents and biometrics requests
Documents reach Home Affairs only through “Attach documents” in ImmiAccount, within these limits (Home Affairs, Applying online, updated 28 May 2025):
- Choose who the document is for, why it is attached and the document type, then browse and attach.
- Attach up to 60 documents for each person in the application.
- Keep identity documents to 500KB each and other documents to 5MB each.
- Do not attach encrypted PDFs; clear photos of documents are accepted.
- Never email documents to Home Affairs.
- Documents attached to an application that has not been submitted are kept for 30 days.
- Documents cannot be removed once submitted.
The “Actions required” section shows what Home Affairs wants next: documents, health examinations, biometrics or character details. The guide to biometrics Australia visa requests for a 482 explains who is asked, where to go and what to bring.
After you lodge: messages and mistakes
- Messages: letters and requests from Home Affairs appear under “View details”, then “Messages”.
- Wrong answers: correct them through “Update details”, then “Notification of incorrect answer(s)”.
- New address or passport: update the details in the account so Home Affairs’ records match your documents.
Supplementary: lodging the sponsorship
The sponsorship is the first thing lodged for a 482, and it takes three steps in ImmiAccount (Home Affairs, Standard business sponsor page):
- Log in to, or create, the organisation account.
- Complete “Standard Business Sponsorship (482, 494)” and pay the $420 application fee.
- Note the TRN for the application.
The 482 visa checklist lists what the worker and the employer each upload, and the business sponsorship visa Australia guide covers the sponsorship criteria and how long approval lasts.
An immigration lawyer makes a 482 more likely to succeed here because the sponsorship, the nomination and the visa must be lodged in the right accounts, in the right order and in the same stream, with the visa application identifying the nomination as Schedule 1 item 1240(3)(f) requires, and a lawyer’s organisation account can lodge and share all three once the appointment is recorded on Form 956.
Questions people ask
Can you create another IMMI account?
Yes. Home Affairs says that if you cannot answer your secret questions you can create a new ImmiAccount and import your application into it.
What documents do I need for Immi login?
None. Logging in needs your username, password and the multi-factor authentication code; documents are needed only when you attach them to an application.
How do I know my IMMI account?
Use the forgotten-username link on the log-in page. Home Affairs emails the usernames of every account linked to your email address.
Does a 482 sponsor need a different ImmiAccount?
Yes. A sponsoring business needs an organisation account, which Home Affairs or the organisation's administrator must approve before it can lodge; Home Affairs usually approves one in 4 working days.
Can my migration lawyer see my ImmiAccount application?
Only if the application is shared with the lawyer's account or lodged by the lawyer. Sharing lets the other account view the application and attach documents.
