Retail Manager (General), ANZSCO 142111, is on the Core Skills Occupation List with no applicable circumstance, so a retail manager can be nominated for the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) in the Core Skills stream at a salary of at least $79,423, for nominations lodged from 1 July 2026. The position’s tasks must correspond to the ANZSCO tasks for the occupation (LIN 24/089, section 6(1)(c)), and the worker needs at least 1 year of relevant experience in the last 5 years. A salary of $146,576 or more moves the nomination into the Specialist Skills stream, because retail managers sit in ANZSCO Major Group 1.

Is retail manager on the CSOL?
Yes. Retail Manager (General), code 142111, is item 41 on the CSOL list in LIN 24/089 on the Federal Register of Legislation.
In ANZSCO unit group 1421 (Retail Managers), only Travel Agency Manager 142116 is also listed; no other occupation from that unit group is on the CSOL. Hospitality, Retail and Service Managers nec (149999) is listed, but with circumstance 16, which excludes a brothel keeper position.
Does a CSOL caveat apply?
No. Item 41 has no applicable circumstance, so no turnover, staff-number or salary caveat limits a Retail Manager (General) nomination. Circumstance 6 (frontline retail and direct client transactions) attaches to other occupations, such as Retail Buyer 639211 and Sales and Marketing Manager 131112, not to 142111. Pages that state a turnover or staff-number caveat for 142111 do not reflect LIN 24/089.
Two tests still decide a retail nomination:
- Task correspondence. Under section 6(1)(c) of LIN 24/089, the occupation applies only if the tasks to be performed correspond to the ANZSCO tasks for 142111: determining the product mix and stock levels, budgeting, setting prices, and controlling the selection, training and supervision of staff. A position that mainly serves customers does not correspond to those tasks.
- A genuine position. Under regulation 2.72(10) of the Migration Regulations 1994, the position must be genuine and full time.
The limited service restaurant circumstance attaches only to Chef and Cook, not to 142111.
What salary must a retail manager be paid?
A retail manager must be paid at least $79,423 in the Core Skills stream, or at least $146,576 in the Specialist Skills stream, for nominations lodged from 1 July 2026. The pay must also be at least the annual market salary rate for the role, shown by the applicable Fair Work instrument, the pay of an equivalent Australian worker at the same workplace, or other relevant information.
Commissions, sales incentives and bonuses do not count toward the threshold, because their amount cannot be determined in advance (regulation 2.57A(2)). A package that reaches the threshold only with sales commission does not meet it. Where earnings are $250,000 or more, the market-rate test does not apply.
How much experience does a retail manager need?
A retail manager needs at least 1 year of full-time experience, or the part-time equivalent, in the occupation or a related field at the same skill level within the last 5 years. The rules on counting it are in the guide to 482 work experience.
ANZSCO’s own description of the qualifications for the occupation is a separate statement from the visa rule: Home Affairs asks the applicant to show the skills to perform the occupation.
A skills assessment is not mandatory for the 482, because 142111 is not in IMMI 18/039. Home Affairs can still ask for one.
Does a retail manager’s 482 lead to PR?
Yes. Two 186 streams are open to a retail manager:
- Temporary Residence Transition: 2 years in the last 3 of full-time sponsored work, a nomination from the current sponsor at the CSIT or more, an age under 45 unless exempt, and Competent English.
- Direct Entry: the stream requires a CSOL occupation, which 142111 is, with no applicable circumstance. It needs a positive skills assessment from the authority the combined list names and 3 years of experience.
The other pathways to permanent residence from a 482 are compared in a separate guide.
A migration lawyer makes a retail manager nomination more likely to be approved by writing the position description against the ANZSCO tasks for 142111 before it is lodged. That matters because a role that is mainly frontline selling does not correspond to those tasks, and Home Affairs refuses a nomination for a position that is not genuine.
Unregistered agents
An unregistered agent who gives immigration assistance on a sponsorship, nomination or visa is breaking the law (Migration Act 1958 s 280). They also carry no professional indemnity insurance, so if their mistake leads to a refusal, lost fees or a closed pathway, the worker or employer has no insurer to claim against. A practising Australian lawyer must carry that insurance.
